After being postponed back in May, the organizers of Brazil Fest decided this week that the new tentative date of Oct. 12 wasn't feasible due to concerns about Immigration officials returning to the Vineyard.
Backers of Brazil Fest, which was supposed to be held on June 1 at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury, announced in a statement Wednesday that the festival is on hold due to concerns for attendees' safety.
Hundreds of people attended Brazil Fest Sunday, with children competing in three-legged races and pinning tails on an illustrated donkey draped in a Brazilian flag, while older attendees visited tables highlighting the work of local organizations.
The Agricultural Hall will fill with the sound of forró music and the smell of sweet rice this Sunday for the Island’s first Brazil Fest.
