Little League opening day ceremonies are Saturday, April 27, beginning at 9 a.m. with a parade up Circuit avenue.

With April vacation in the books, spring sports at the high school are at full sail as the Vineyard’s student athletes battle in their divisions across the water, diamond, court, field and track.

Ava Stearns, an accomplished equestrian from Chilmark riding for Auburn University, finished her collegiate career last Thursday.

Ava Stearns began her journey as an equestrian while growing up in Chilmark. Now she is decorated on the national level, riding for Auburn University. The team competes for the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship, beginning today.

Island fishermen harvested around 2,500 fewer bushels this year, though local scallopers and fishmongers say it wasn’t all bad news for the fishery, as a lower harvest on- and off-Island prevented the precipitous drop in scallop prices that occurred last year.
