Cold though this week has been, it’s not yet time to conclude that the Island is seeing a hard winter in January — certainly the wind has howled, but the trip to Chappaquiddick still requires a ferry ticket, not a sturdy pair of hiking boots. And there’s still time in which we may reasonably hope for that welcome break in the season which punctuates more Island winters than not, the traditional January thaw.
