The legal tug of war over the regional high school’s plan to use artificial turf on its athletic fields took center stage unexpectedly this week as town meeting season got under way.
It’s not every day uniformed members of the U.S. Coast Guard play volleyball with first-graders or shred string cheese with kindergartners at snack break. At the Tisbury School, however, things like this are happening every Thursday.
Voting in Oak Bluffs is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oak Bluffs Library. Edgartown polls are at town hall and are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voting in West Tisbury will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the fire station at 454 State Rd.

The West Tisbury town meeting kicked off on a fiery note Tuesday with residents voting down the town’s portion of the regional high school operating budget in protest of the school’s ongoing legal battle over plans for an artificial turf field.
