Monday night’s rehearsal for the Island Theatre Workshop’s summer production of The King and I began with Lee Fierro and director Kevin Ryan gathering the cast to give them feedback. Amidst the technical discussions typical of this sort of assembly were kind words from both. At one point Ms. Fierro even became teary as she complimented nine-year-old Zachary Mathias on his performance in the first scene the night before.

Martha’s Vineyard Airport manager Sean Flynn is leaving his job, the chairman of airport commission said Thursday, capping months of tension over operational issues and workplace disputes. “We’re negotiating an amicable separation,” commission chairman Myron Garfinkle told the Gazette.

The 147th Grand Illumination was celebrated Wednesday under a new moon and thick summer air. Lanterns from around the world, some passed down through generations of Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association families, decorated the porches of the gingerbread cottages in the center of Oak Bluffs.
