On a chilly, misty spring day Jackson and Mary Kenworth sit across from each other at Beach Road, their fourth Vineyard restaurant in the past 20 years, spooling out the memories and their story.

Martha’s Vineyard is showing signs of recovery after the recession, including in construction and real estate. But a seasonal economy and lack of affordable housing continue to pose challenges.

The new ferry Woods Hole was christened last week at the Louisiana shipyard where she was built, and will soon travel 2,200 miles to her new home port. She is scheduled to begin service on June 17.

Roughly 200 commuters take the early morning ferry to Martha’s Vineyard each day, many of them construction workers who hail from all over southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Filmed in 1925, this may be the earliest motion picture footage ever shot in Edgartown. The filmmakers were Clara F. Dinsmore and her brother William, who were on a car ride through town.
