A 62-year-old New York City man died over the weekend after he was found unresponsive in a boat in Edgartown harbor, according to Edgartown police.
Police were called to the harbor at 7:20 p.m. Sunday after friends had found the man who was suffering from a medical episode, according to police Chief Chris Dolby. The man was brought to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and was later pronounced dead, Chief Dolby said.
The man had been participating in the Edgartown Yacht Club sailing races event over the weekend. Chief Dolby declined to identify the man as his family was still being notified about his death.
“It’s a tragic event,” the chief said.
The general manager of the yacht club did not immediately return a request for comment Monday.
