Most of downtown Vineyard Haven was destroyed by fire in 1883. William street was untouched and now hosts the longest stretch of old buildings in town.

At a three-hour-plus marathon meeting Tuesday, the Tisbury selectmen tentatively decided to take the Beach Road design question to a special town meeting before the end of the year. Selectmen are divided.
