December proceeds in the fashion ordained long, long ago: chill, dampness, wind, but what takes precedence increasingly is the feeling of Christmas.

When the Gazette went to press on Thursday of last week the news had been received shortly before that “The armistice had been signed and hostilities had been called off.” Immediately Edgartown, like all the rest of the country, started in to jubilate.
