It has finally happened. We’ve had a proper freeze. It’s sad, as always, to see another season come to an end. It is, however, oddly comforting to see the completion of a garden year.
Wow! It was quite a storm last Sunday. My friend, Sharlee, registered a 54-mile-an-hour gust on Chappy. I will say it made quick work of stripping the rest of the leaves from several varieties of trees.
Led by Vineyard chef and farmer Jan Buhrman, Porks and Knives is a four-day culinary farm-to-table adventure that brings together chefs, farmers and butchers from around the country. This year the event featured master butcher Kari Underly.
I’m the queen of both superlatives and repetition. I know I’ve said this countless times, why stop now?
Gardening is nothing more than observation and recognition.
Everything I like and wish to repurchase gets discontinued or shipped off to China, where it’s manufactured cheaply and poorly.
I worked in the pouring rain last Saturday. Couldn’t have been happier. I transplanted all the baby collards, kales, spigarellos and lettuces into the hoop house. Hopefully, there will be salad makings for most of the winter.
