For many people, Christmas on the Vineyard wouldn’t be the same without the sound of bells and hooves making their way past downtown shops. Fred Fisher’s wooden hay wagon and two Belgian draft horses are a familiar sight.

On Sunday at the West Tisbury Congregational Church, the choir and newly formed band brought forth the sounds of Christmas both old and new.

The 1950s-themed diner has a new owner and a new name. The Edgartown Diner is owned by chef Ralston Francis and his partner Mavis Hutchinson.

Beginning in January, seven nights a week, three churches will provide shelter and meals to men, women and families who need a place to get in out of the cold.

Commissioned for Chilmark’s tricentennial in 1994, the Swordfish Harpooner created by Jay Lagemann is an homage to the fishing industry.
