Born in the wee hours on Jan. 3 during the snowstorm, Maicon Nilson Patricio weighed 8 pounds 14.7 ounces and measured 20.5 inches long. His parents are Amanda and Maicon Patricio of Oak Bluffs.

The Vineyard experienced approximately eight inches of snowfall, high winds and frigid temperatures but for the most part the Island is getting back to normal. Most of the roads are clear and the Steamship Authority is running on a trip by trip basis.

Gina deBettencourt takes over as new P.A. Club president, succeeding longtime club president Tricia Bergeron, who led the club for 22 years. She’s been involved in club activities for 15 years, most recently serving as vice president of the organization.

John J. Varkonda, who served as superintendent of the state forest for 26 years, died suddenly at age 55. The cause was abdominal aortic aneurysm. Mr. Varkonda was 29 when he assumed the superintendency of the state forest, only the second person to oversee the property.
