The Realized Dream Project is hosting an electronic waste collection on Sunday, Sept. 16, at the cliffs of Aquinnah. The collection will be from 1 to 8 p.m. and include any electronic equipment that still works but is no longer wanted, including TV’s, microwaves, computers, cell phones and more.
On Sunday, Sept. 23, from noon to 8 p.m. there will be another collection at Menemsha Town Beach by the Texaco station. From 4 to 8 p.m. there will also be a community pot luck jam and concert featuring Adam Lipsky and friends.
And the cry rings out, “A.P. did it!” I think
he’d be tickled. It’s an honor bestowed on each and every one of us on our way down to the cemetery. A.P. built most of the houses on the island. For 40 years he was the town builder, mason, plumber, architect, electrician and building inspector. Since his death he has become solely responsible for every single piece of bad building ever perpetrated on this rock. He has singlehandedly absolved every one of us of our sins. He is a saint, the patron saint of scapegoats.
The Food and Drug Administration is now dealing with a suit regarding false and misleading information in a case against Chobani, the Greek yogurt company, for listing “evaporated cane juice” as a major ingredient in its pomegranate-flavored yogurt. The FDA has the power to regulate product labeling and can ask for a change if it deems a rule violation has been committed.
With no car lanes, no stop signs and no one directing traffic on the water, safety among boaters is critically important. And most boat operators are polite. A customary wave is exchanged between two helmsmen when they are in a constricted area.
But in recent years and especially this summer, there appears to be a change in this custom. Some helmsmen are driving their boats unsafely, their heads pointed straight ahead, ignoring others around them.
I have doubts about my dog’s truthfulness. Or should I say his sincerity? Or maybe both.
Rudy (he’s named after the diminutive, underdog Notre Dame football player) has been partially paralyzed for about a half dozen years.
Or so he claims.

And as Sam Low’s letter to the editor and Paul Karasik’s cartoon have shown, if you missed the Island’s own Cynthia Riggs, you missed a story of inspiration and love for any age. I moved to Martha’s Vineyard seven years ago and Cynthia was one of the first people I had a chance to meet.
