After four years of donating a portion of proceeds from its original Vineyardopoly game to Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, The Lazy Frog has officially raised over $10,000 for the organization.
Since 2021, The Lazy Frog owners Jake and Sarah Gifford have been donating a portion of revenue from each game sold to Community Services, an Island nonprofit that runs an array of services for families, seniors, veterans, domestic violence victims and people suffering from substance use disorder.
“It’s amazing,” Mr. Gifford told the Gazette. “We’re happy to get to this milestone. It’s awesome.”
Community Services released a statement last month thanking the Giffords for their continued commitment to supporting the organization.
“The Giffords’ creative generosity is a game-changer and a great example of how we can all work together to strengthen our Island community and support those in need,” said Community Services chief executive officer Dean Teague in the statement. “We are very grateful for this ongoing partnership.”
Commissioned by the Giffords in 2021, Vineyardopoly is a Martha’s Vineyard-themed answer to the classic board game Monopoly. Players move from square to square, vying to purchase local businesses while avoiding being sent off-Island. Businesses featured in the game include Mocha Mott’s, the Aquinnah Shop Restaurant, the Barn, Bowl & Bistro and Cronig’s Market. The Vineyard Gazette, of which Ms. Gifford is the general manager, is also featured in the game.
Mr. Gifford emphasized that the donation campaign’s success would not be possible without the businesses and customers who supported it. He noted that The Lazy Frog will continue donating part of the game’s proceeds to Community Services.
“If you’ve seen the back of the Vineyardopoly game, you can see the list of all the stores that helped us make it happen,” he said. “The customers and families and everybody buying the game makes a big difference.”
