Tisbury Ends Parking on Pine Tree Road

The town of Tisbury is installing a new sidewalk between Pine Tree Road and Oak Grove Cemetery, ending the longstanding but unsanctioned use of the roadside for vehicle parking.

“Unfortunately there will be no parking along this roadway,” public works director Kirk Metell told the Gazette by e-mail Tuesday.

“I totally understand the need,” he added. “Back in the day, families were lucky if they had more than one car in the driveway; now we see a vehicle for each member of the family.

However, Mr. Metell noted, that edge of Pine Tree Road along the cemetery wall was planted with grass and trees and never intended for parking.

The new sidewalk will meet the accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act, he said, and a shared-use bike lane is also being installed.

Work is scheduled to continue until the ground freezes and resume again after it thaws next year.

Agree. Should also consider extending the sidewalk on the other side of the cemetery down West Spring Street toward Heath Hen Ln. There is no sidewalk there for kids walking to school and a limited road shoulder.

While we are beginning to enforce town regulations, can Tisbury please begin to enforce zoning regulations regarding the number of non-related persons living at one residence? Zoning for single family residences is not being enforced causing many problems in once lovely neighborhoods.

Simply repave the asphalt path that already exists on the other side of the stone wall. No need to remove trees, create more rainwater runoff issues, and lose parking spaces. More poor choices by the heads in Tisbury
