No one was injured Saturday after a trailer caught fire aboard the barge used to set off fireworks at the annual Oak Bluffs fireworks show.
No one was injured Saturday after a trailer caught fire aboard the barge used to set off fireworks at the annual Oak Bluffs fireworks show.
The fire on the barge started at about 9:40 p.m., about two-thirds of the way through the fireworks display, according to public safety officials.
Oak Bluffs fire Chief Stephen Foster said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the fire did not spread past the trailer, allowing the fireworks to continue after the blaze was extinguished.
American Thunder Fireworks runs the fireworks show at Ocean Park, with personnel both on land and out on the barge, where the explosives are set off.
Fire crews from Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, police and the Oak Bluffs harbor master all helped with the fire, according to Chief Foster.
Last year, the fireworks display was stopped prematurely due to burning embers falling into the crowd, a result of strong winds coming off the water.
