Driver Hurt in West Tisbury Rollover Crash

Firefighters and police responded to the intersection of State Road and Old County Road around 4:20 p.m. for the collision.

A driver went to the hospital with unknown injuries Tuesday after their truck rolled over in a two-vehicle crash in West Tisbury.

Firefighters and police responded to the intersection of State Road and Old County Road around 4:20 p.m. for the collision, said West Tisbury fire Chief Gregory Pachico.

The Toyota Tacoma rolled over and was heavily damaged, according to Chief Pachico. The driver was brought to the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle declined treatment and is being charged with a civil motor vehicle infraction, according to West Tisbury police Chief Matt Mincone.

The nearby roads were shut down as West Tisbury, Tisbury and State police investigated and redirected traffic.

“We appreciate the work of all the officers coming up to redirect traffic and appreciate everyone’s cooperation,” Mr. Pachico said.

The injury status of the drivers are unknown at this time.

Special thanks to a Chilmark fire department team member who lives on State Rd and served as a volunteer traffic control officer during the closure of State Road due to this unfortunate accident.

It was she who helped each car turn around in a driveway and head back toward Vineyard Haven.

During the State Road shut down, the traffic headed up-Island used Lambert’s Cove Rd as a detour and the traffic there was heavy and included VTA busses.

Oddly there was no police presence at either end of Lamberts Cove Rd where it intersects with State Road even a good ten minutes after the shut down of State Road.

Thanks to those drivers who let others know about the huge back up of stopped cars on State Rd. and the need to turn and use Lamberts Cove as a detour.
