Carla Cooper of Edgartown has been honored by the Cape and Islands Democratic Council with the Democrat of the Year award. This is the first time a Vineyard resident has received the annual award.

The award is made in recognition of Ms. Cooper’s leadership, commitment to Democratic Party ideals and work on the Vineyard in electing the first Democratic district attorney for the Cape and Islands, Rob Galibois. She is the former chair of the Democratic Council of Martha’s Vineyard, current chair of the Edgartown Democratic town committee and an active member of Indivisible Martha’s Vineyard.

Ms. Cooper was officially honored at the Kennedy Legacy Dinner in Hyannis on May 6, where elected officials, guests and supporters of the Democratic Party gathered to celebrate wins in the 2022 election. In addition to receiving the Democrat of the Year award, Ms. Cooper received certificates of recognition from the United States Senate, House of Representatives and the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
