After 35 years of ownership by Steve Bernier, the Cronig’s Markets properties in Vineyard Haven and West Tisbury have changed hands.

On Jan. 3, Mr. Bernier sold the West Tisbury Cronig’s for $6.6 million and the Cronig’s and Healthy Additions in Vineyard Haven for a total of $4.9 million.

Customers are unlikely to see any drastic changes: Buyer State Road Properties LLC is the limited-liability company of longtime Cronig’s employee Andrea Donnelly, whom Mr. Bernier chose as his successor in 2021.

Mr. Bernier has told the Gazette that while he is selling the assets to Ms. Donnelly, he’ll remain active in the stores.

“She needs me here for the next 10 years to teach her how to own a business, be a leader, be a manager of the front office,” he said in an October 2021 interview.

Congratulations Steve! Glad you will be sticking around to keep the best grocery store on the Island afloat! I only shop Cronigs, sure you can save a few pennies at the other big box store, but you don’t have Steve and the great staff!

It’s not easy to keep prices low and have a good product. Inflation is skyrocketing across all boards.
We really need to expand the Stop n Shop in Vineyard Haven… it needs to expand why the hood up with this? They demolished the old building and put in a parking lot?
