Adding to a collection of awards that includes 14 Grammy nominations and an Academy Award for her song Let the River Run in the movie Working Girl, Carly Simon will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at this year’s ceremony in November.
Ms. Simon joins a 2022 class of Hall-of-Fame female icons, including Dolly Parton, Pat Benatar, Sylvia Robinson, Elizabeth Cotton and Eurythmics front-woman Annie Lennox, the organization announced.
Ms. Simon, a longtime Vineyard resident who started coming to the Island as a young girl with her family, sang at various venues around the Island as a teenager. She hit the big time with her Grammy-award winning song
That’s the Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be from her 1971 debut album. Her follow-up albums Anticipation and No Secrets, which included the hit single You’re So Vain, cemented her status as a worldwide star.
Despite an apparent meteoric success, her career was by no means easy.
She developed a crippling stutter as a young girl, which made her shy and afraid of her own voice, a feeling that never went away, she told the Gazette in a 2015 interview.
“I don’t like to be on stage either because I don’t like to be in the spotlight and that probably has to do with the early days in school and being called on in class and I couldn’t say anything because of my stammer,” she said.
But the spotlight shines again on Nov. 5 in Los Angeles at the 37th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Congratulations to Carly!
rob the roofer new jerseyCongratulations to Carly! well-deserved and much too long a wait for the honor. Better late than never. We met at Midnight Farm years ago while she was looking for something to buy for her daughter Sally's home. I looked up saw this ideal of mine and froze. I knew the wrong thing to do was bother her during her personal time as well as a definite no no for the Island rules. (BUT I couldn't stop myself) I did introduce myself and explained I'm another admirer of hers. She not only was not upset for the interruption but asked me if would like a picture together, I did have a camera on my shoulder. That personal introduction other than the countless times I was 5th or 25th or even last row seats at her shows was a experience that will stick with me forever. It's so great when your bigger then life Ideals meet your expectations. She's Great and now the Rock -n- Roll Hall of Fame say's so too. Nobody Does it Better Congratulations and thanks Carly.

I agree with the commentary
Karen Talley New York, NYI agree with the commentary about Carly being a very nice person, in addition to a worldwide celebrity. She came to be interviewed when I was at The Wall Street Journal and after finishing, did a few songs. In speaking with her after, she was so down to earth. Even asked me what my favorite song was on The Bedroom Tapes when I asked her to sign the CD. (I know, how professional was that). So terrific for someone whose songs have always been so meaningful for me.
