The state highway department has provided Tisbury with a new set of plans for the Beach Road redesign project, which is set to resume in September.
Now posted on the town website, the 34-page document appears consistent with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s last-stated plans for the heavily traveled corridor, town administrator Jay Grande said Thursday.
“There’s no inconsistencies that I am aware of. However, our engineers and our department heads will look at it,” Mr. Grande told the Gazette.
A full explication by state engineers will have to wait until after the summer season, he said.
“The reason I expedited getting these plans is … a citizen ran into some workers and (they) apparently gave him some concern as to the direction the plan was headed,” Mr. Grande said.
“But we do not have the benefit of having the presentation by MassDOT at this time.”
State highway officials and the town select board will meet before the Beach Road work resumes next month, Mr. Grande said.
“I don’t anticipate a start date until well after Labor Day.”

The state should just do what
TLC TisburyThe state should just do what they need to do. Don't tell our town "leaders". All they'll do is jump in and mess things up like they did with Stop&Shop. I trust the state more than I do our town.
I am the citizen that spoke
Frank Brunelle Vineyard HavenI am the citizen that spoke with engineers on the project and there is a problem. The paper knows this and knows that anyone can view the plans at the Vineyard Haven library. See sheets 18,19,and 20 and bike lanes are properly sited 5 feet wide each side of the road but sidewalk on harbor side is completely missing. Road is (it appears to be) 37 1/2 feet wide whereas it is 43 feet wide in other sections. This is a major problem not related to the bicycle lanes which are symmetrical and allow flow with traffic. Town Administrator and papers are aware of this.
Let’s try not have
Steve VHLet’s try not have construction during the morning commute. Shutting down one lane at that time is ill advised. Maybe do construction at night, they have invented a wonderful thing called a lightbulb. Most DOT projects work overnight. Just a thought.
