We have owned a house in Vineyard Haven since 2005, we live in a small town in upstate New York similar to MV. We would like to visit the Island but cannot get a clear picture of:

• Can we visit?

• Are we welcome?

• Do we need to quarantine?

• Are beaches open?

• Are trails open?

• Can one buy produce and/or groceries?

• Can guests come to our house?

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, but you should bring enough with to quarantine for 14 days, yes, if they are willing to follow the mask and social distancing guidelines along with you.

But you present the contradiction: if 14 day quarantine, that means people can't leave our house for 14 days. No beach, hiking, whatever stores might be open or doing curbside. Masks and gloves on the ferry of course. What, exactly, can visitors do and not do?

Quarantine is quarantine. Bring 14 days of groceries and don’t leave your house/yard for 14 days - after that you’re free to enjoy beaches and trails (socially distanced, etc). Unless Governor Baker changes the guidelines, that is what you are supposed to do. I know it’s not what anyone wants to do, but it’s the right thing. We did it with our small kids, I’m sure you can to.
We won’t be having guests at this time because we feel we would have to re quarantine after they leave, and also we don’t want to risk our own potential exposure from guests. Difficult times, but it’s not forever.

KM explained it better than I. You can do all the things you asked about after the 14 day quarantine.

I think people need to dust off their dictionaries and look up the word "quarantine". I'm not trying to be snarky here, but I saw a person at the store the other day who I know just arrived on the island from their off-island residence. She told me she and her family were "quarantining" for 14 days, but that she just needed to pick up a few things. I stared at her blankly in disbelief. This is what we're dealing with here.
