Edgartown firefighters were called out to the Newes pub Monday night for what turned out to be a small fire outside the downtown restaurant.

Fire Chief Alex Schaeffer said the call came in at 6 p.m. with reports of “smoke emanating from mortar around a brick in the pub.” He said thermal imaging was used out of concern that there could be a fire inside the wall. “After further investigation it was believed to be an exterior fire with very localized damage,” the chief said in a text message.

Four bricks were removed with no further findings, and the restaurant was reopened.

Oak Bluffs responded with a ladder truck, as the Edgartown ladder is away for repairs and upgrades, the chief also said.

There were no injuries.
