The Vineyard Gazette’s Community Surveys project is launching an online survey to gather public attitudes and ideas about motor vehicle traffic on Martha’s Vineyard during the peak summer months.
Full-time and seasonal residents are encouraged to fill out the short questionnaire. Respondents are free to pass the survey link on to others, but there is a mechanism in place to prevent more than one response from the same computer.
The community surveys project is an effort to stimulate debate around topics of community interest; results are not statistically significant. Previous surveys have focused on the performance of the Steamship Authority, ticks and tick-borne illness and mopeds.
Individual responses to the survey will be kept anonymous. Overall results and a sampling of comments will be published in a future issue of the Gazette and on vineyardgazette.com.

Please make this survey very
island girl islandPlease make this survey very prominent (MORE prominent) and very easy to take (MORE easy). This is a really important survey. We have long passed the tipping point -- it is almost like the global warming issues and climate change. There are still too many people saying: "oh, it isn't so bad" and/or "it is all about the economy and we all need to make money." They are delusional.
Malcolm Gladwell's book some ears back talks about tipping points and now we have Bernie Sanders proclaiming that "Enough is enough." Yes it is, and we are way past that point. Many islanders simply do not go anywhere except to their jobs and then to the grocery store in the summer.
We have vacationed in August
Diane Colocousis West Bridgewater, MaWe have vacationed in August in Edgartown for the past 45 years. As much as we love MV, the traffic becomes worse every year. Wish we could go back to the 1970s .

When I moved here 25 years
BS Oak BluffsWhen I moved here 25 years ago traffic was bad in the summer. It's about the same now as then. The one thing I've noticed is not so much the traffic in the off season but the additional cars. It wasn't unusual to see a friend approaching you on Edgartown rd. in the winter and both of you stopping in the middle of the road to talk. That certainly doesn't happen anymore.
Walk, bikes, and stay home
Moshup MVWalk, bikes, and stay home for the 2 months of the year that it is a problem.
