Services are planned for next Wednesday for two longtime Chilmark residents who were killed when they were hit by a motorist Saturday night in Connecticut.
Seth and Joanne Wakeman were struck and killed shortly after leaving a restaurant in Mystic, Conn., as first reported in The Day.
The driver, a 73-year-old woman from Groton, has been charged with drunken driving, the newspaper said.
The Wakemans, who lived in Stonington, Conn., were well-known Chilmarkers.
Seth Wakeman grew up summering on the Island and had been friends with Everett Poole since their youth.
He returned every year to fish with Everett and renew old friendships on the Island, often in the fall.
A funeral service will be held at noon at St. Andrews’s Episcopal Church in Edgartown on Wednesday, March 20.
Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Abel’s Hill Cemetery in Chilmark. A reception will be held at the Chilmark Community Church.
A full obituary will appear in a future edition.

Seth and Joanne were longtime
Sally Cook Chilmark, Mass.Seth and Joanne were longtime, year round Chilmark residents(not just summer). In the early 2000`s they moved to Stonington, Connecticut to be nearer to their families. They were welcomed back to the Vineyard by friends, every fall when the new owners of the house they had sold invited them to use their old house for lodging and entertaining. They remained well loved and respected Chilmarkers.
