A former Island doctor has admitted to sufficient facts on two counts of indecent assault and battery stemming from an alleged assault this summer in Edgartown.
The case against Peter J. Laursen, 71, of Vineyard Haven, was continued without a finding for 10 years last Friday in Edgartown district court.
Dr. Laursen, a longtime family physician, surrendered his license to practice medicine in May of this year, according to the state Board of Registration in Medicine.
He was arraigned in August after alleged incidents that took place during a Camp Jabberwocky fundraiser in Edgartown on July 27. According to police, two women alleged they had been inappropriately touched by a man attending the event. The man was later identified as Mr. Laursen.
In court last week he was ordered to stay away from the alleged victims and Camp Jabberwocky, remain alcohol free with screens for the first three years, continue with counseling and AA three times a week, pay two $90 victim/witness assessment fees, and pay a $65 monthly probation services fee for the first three years and $50 a month thereafter. He has permission to leave the state to visit family if notice is given of his departure and return.

He is the only doctor I ever had that could really understand the anguish I was going through for years because we spoke the same language.
