Dr. Alamjit Virk has been named as the new medical director of emergency medicine and hospitalist services at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. He has been working as staff physician at the hospital for about a year and a half.

A board certified emergency medicine physician, Dr. Virk was most recently an attending physician in emergency medicine at Emerson Hospital in Concord. Prior to that, he was assistant director of emergency medicine at Faulkner Hospital in Boston and Waltham Hospital in Waltham. He earned his master’s in public health in 1993 at Harvard School of Public Health after completing his residency in emergency medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.
