A poem heralds the arrival of the Polynesian sailing vessel.
In a world torn by conflict and greed
Absurd random semiautomatic
Slaughter our leaders refuse to stop
How can there be this star of joy?
An ancient outrigger canoe sailing seas
Like a needle and thread stitching souls
How can there be this mission of peace?
Spreading kindness rebuilding connections
With winds, stars, clouds and ocean swells
Hokule’a sails across the infinite skies
While on the dirt continents blood splashes
On splinters of bone, glass and sovereignty
It is a brave and beautiful thing to surrender
To trust what we know and feel inside
We are one people on one voyage
Wayfinding along the pathway back
Through the storm to a new tomorrow
Hokule’a a future rising out of the past
Star of joy star of our ancestors
Eddie is the starlight in the storm
Nainoa guides the spaceship earth
Pulls a land of peace out of the sea
