Vineyard Football Standout Randall Jette Signs with Packers

Randall Jette, a football standout from Martha’s Vineyard who went on to play for UMass, is headed to the NFL after signing with the Green Bay Packers.

Jette signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Packers, according to a tweet from UMass football Saturday night.

A 5-foot-11, 193-pound cornerback known for his speed, Jette trained at the elite Parabolic Performance Training Center in New Jersey for this year’s football draft, and his name started popping up among those tracking college football prospects that might be headed for the NFL.

Though he wasn’t drafted, Jette was among the undrafted players to sign with a team. According to the NFL, more than 50 undrafted free agents ended up on opening day rosters in 2015.

Throughout draft weekend Jette has had support from Vineyarders and from his family, who have cheered him from the Island Cup to Division One football.

“I’ve always been the guy who has more to prove, coming from playing football on the Vineyard,” Jette told the Gazette in an interview earlier this year. “You come to a school like UMass and you play other teams, they imagine Martha’s Vineyard and they don’t think football. They think Jaws, or they think of vacation. I had a lot to prove, and I’ve always been that chip-on-the-shoulder guy.” -

“God is good all the time! Let’s get to work @packers,” Jette said in his own tweet Saturday night.

As Jette headed to Green Bay, “The Jette” steak and cheese sandwich arrived at Shiretown Meats in Edgartown. “Because when you go from MVRHS to the NFL you get a sandwich named after you,” the store said on Facebook, adding that the local star is “officially the only Packer we root for.”

Looking forward to that first Lambeau leap after a pick 6. Malcolm Butler was another undrafted free agent who has fared pretty well.

Good to see "Local boy makes good" good for him. It may be a longshot but reading all the articles written about this young man, I wouldn't bet against him.

Good Luck!

First let me say congratulations to you young man.It takes great focus to stay on the right path to where you want to go within your life and sometimes that's a hard thing to do, but you know what is would take to complete some of the work you have in front of you. There will be some test the you'll see in front of you. Always remember how hard it was to get where you are today and keep that same mind set in your career and lifestyle. Stay humble and true and don't cheat yourself from having some of the greatest things that have yet to cross your path.keep what I saw in your eyes, Hungrier.because when your hungry you go after it harder. Congrats Mr. Jett. Great team to learn the game. Play hard

Welcome to Wisconsin. Study hard and choose your friends wisely. Packers have a strong history of keeping undrafted free agents. Especially if they play well on special teams. Good luck.
