An Oak Bluffs woman who was seriously burned early Saturday morning in an Oak Bluffs house fire has been upgraded to good condition, a spokesman for the Massachusetts General Hospital said Thursday.

Jerilyn Dube, 52, was in critical condition in the days following the fire at 132 Pennsylvania avenue. Her husband and a neighbor are being credited with rescuing her from the flames.

Firefighters received the first report of a kitchen fire at the home just after 1 a.m., fire officials said.

“When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, the building was fully involved and there was a woman in the doorway, unresponsive,” said Oak Bluffs fire chief John Rose. “The firefighters and police initiated CPR, got her right into the ambulance, got her right over to the hospital.”

Ms. Dube was transported from the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital to Boston by medical helicopter.

Cliff Robinson, a Pennsylvania avenue neighbor, told police he was sleeping on a couch when he heard yelling, and went across the street to find the home burning.

He said Raymond Rochon was outside the home, yelling that his wife was still inside. They looked into the home and saw her unconscious on the floor.

Mr. Robinson told police he and Mr. Rochon went back into the burning building, and dragged Ms. Dube out to the doorway. By then, first responders were arriving and immediately began CPR. According to the police report, Ms. Dube was not breathing, and had severe burns on her face and upper body.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames, Chief Rose said, helped by a fire hydrant located directly in front of the two-bedroom ranch home. There was extensive interior damage but the structure was still standing.

Firefighters and paramedics from Edgartown and Vineyard Haven also responded as part of the Island mutual aid system.

The Massachusetts fire marshal joined Island investigators Tuesday to search for the cause of the fire.

“We know where the fire started, but the actual cause is still undetermined,” Mr. Rose said on Wednesday.
