A small band of Islanders joined a worldwide call for action on climate change in a demonstration in Vineyard Haven Sunday afternoon.
Carrying signs that said “Save the Earth Now,” about 30 people marched from Five Corners along Beach Road for a short rally under sunny skies on a brisk fall day at the close of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The march was part of a worldwide effort to raise awareness on the eve of the United Nations conference on climate change in Paris. More than 100 world leaders, including President Obama, will attend the two-week conference.
“We have to get everyone behind this and take action now,” said Nicola Blake, a West Tisbury resident who has studied climate change as part of a research team at the University of California. “As an Island we’re pretty vulnerable.”
Also marching were several students from the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School. The students were scheduled to visit Paris this week, but the trip was canceled after the terror attacks in Paris on Nov. 13. The students had planned to attend a climate change march in France.

So thankfully the carbon
Hal EdgartownSo thankfully the carbon footprints they would have used to go back and forth to Paris didn't happen.
Incredibly, Pres. Obama
Peter Robb Holliston and Oak BluffsIncredibly, Pres. Obama proclaimed that the big climate meeting in Paris (insert ironic comment here) would prove to ISIS and other terror groups our strength and determination. You can't make this stuff up!
