West Tisbury police are investigating a break-in and theft that took place at Alley’s General Store sometime Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

Police chief Dan Rossi said a little more than $800 in cash was stolen sometime after 6 p.m. Monday when the store closed.

Officers received a call at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday reporting the break in and missing cash, Chief Rossi said. He said nothing else was taken from the store. The alarm at the general store was not activated, the chief said, and a window on the west side of the building had been left unlocked.

Mr. Rossi said the thief took the screen down and went through the open window.

He said it serves as a reminder to the community to take precautions. “If you create an opportunity like an open door, unlocked door, open window or a deactivated alarm, unfortunately people will take it,” the chief said.

In September, thefts were reported at two other up-Island businesses, Little Leona’s Pets and Fiddlehead Farm. Mr. Rossi said police do not believe the theft at Alley’s is connected. He said the department is still investigating the thefts from September.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Tisbury police department at 508-693-0020, [email protected] or send a message to the department on their Facebook page.

The alarm was off and a window was left open. Looks like an inside job to me. I'm not a detective, I just play one on tv.

"Mr. Rossi said police do not believe the theft is at Alley's connected [to other recent up-Island robberies]

Is that because Mr. Rossi believes that there are so many individuals or groups robbing businesses that the odds are they are unrelated??
