Can someone explain the fact the same people who are against the OB shark tournament( because the get drunk and they kill sharks) don't protest this drunken affair. All one has to do is watch the drunks leaving the party getting into their cars and driving merrily down the street after celebrating the annual WMVY Big Chili Contest. This is nothing compared to those who go onto the steamship boat and relieve themselves all over the boat with throwing up and using the boat as a urinal.
It WILL happen when someone leaves this affair and kills someone because they are drunk. How many DUI where handed out yesterday. Check point should be put out at each end of County Road at the intersections and one down at the end Vineyard Haven Ave.
I would bet more than 1/2 would fail.
PS: How many DUI where given out?

The Chili Contest and the Shark Tournament are completely different events.

The Chili Contest is contained only to the PA Club property for several hours. All of the "Drunks" are in one general area making it easy to monitor and keep under control. Most of the attendants are either bussed in or take a taxi to the event.

As for the Shark Tournament, all of the drunks are scattered throughout the town, which leads to violation of open container laws, public urination, fights etc.

And most importantly, the Chili Contest is a charitable event, where as the Shark Tournament is not.

This is a charity event in name only. A good charity has hard cost of 15- 20 percent. This event the hard costs are more like 65% there is plenty of people making big money on this day. The bartenders alone make over $600 each for this fun afternoon and they keep the money. Same goes for the club, the bands, the tents and everyone else. The Red Stocking does get money and that is a good thing but do not be fooled big money is made here under the sham of a charity event. Open up the books and get the percentage down to 20% costs range and i will agree it is a honest charity event. Otherwise it is just another business event that gives some back.

Mr. B. Chilmark

A good question, and one that the Gazette should be able to answer. That said, I think many people who objected to the shark event did so because they were killing things. There's no "vegetarian" class at the shark event...

This drunken affair raises money for an island
charity. This drunken affair is held on private property. This drunken affair is monitored by state and local police, judging by what I saw you can't get out of the lot without encountering the law. This drunken affair has been going on longer than The Monster Ego,...I mean Shark Tournament and continues to evolve and benefit the community(not just the businesses)
Oh yeah, this drunken affair is a fun time.

One must temper his comments. Nobody got killed, everybody had fun, and $$$$ were raised for a worthy cause. Does any body have results for the first contest?

Not as absurd as old man Gault Everywhere.

Yes, they are dumb. Those dumb people are always around - you should stay a summer here!

You are claiming this event results in public boat urinating? Doesn't that boat have a staff and restrooms?

Have you heard of a designated driver? I mean, I'm not into the idiot fest, it just seems like you're starting an anti-idiot idiot fest.

Don't tard up a perfectly good website.

These people need to turn the volume way down. I live a long way from the PA Club (east chop), it sounded like there was a rock band in my back yard, even with all the doors and windows closed. Those of us who don't attend this event should not have to listen to it all day.

My friends love to come to the Chili fest. We are within walking distance. Yes it's noisy but it is over by six. When I bought my property many years ago the agent told me it was very quiet except one weekend in the summer when the "Feast" is celebrated and the music plays late. We live with it because so many people are having a good time. The chili fest is a daytime event, one day of noise in the middle of winter is certainly acceptable. My guests spend a lot of money locally bbesides drinking at the Fest.Chill out guys!
