Classic Capawock

Your Nov. 8 article about Benjamin Hall Sr. and the future of the Capawock Theatre (the Vineyard’s oldest movie theatre) is a sad commentary on a possibly missed opportunity.

Your Nov. 8 article about Benjamin Hall Sr. and the future of the Capawock Theatre (the Vineyard’s oldest movie theatre) is a sad commentary on a possibly missed opportunity. It seems that Mr. Hall is ignoring his theatre’s greatest asset — namely, that it is a real, old-time artifact, ideal for bringing back classic movies. Rather than compete with other, more modern cinemas on the Island, Mr. Hall would do well to recognize the enormous potential of this unique property. Film buffs would welcome a venue devoted to Alfred Hitchcock, Humphrey Bogart, screwball comedies and more. Perfect time, perfect place.

Couldn't agree more with Linda's comments. Mr Hall's short sightedness is a real tragedy. We have a gem of a building, rich in history, that would, indeed, be a great space for screening old classics. I, for one, would be the first in line for that genre of film. Stop focusing on the negative and focus on the "diamond in the ruff" that you are the steward of!
