Reality Sets In, Production on The Vineyard Begins

The cast and crew of the reality show The Vineyard has arrived on the Island and begun work on their docu-soap, set to debut this sumer on the ABC Family network. Film crews and cast members were spotted Friday morning filming on State Beach in Oak Bluffs before moving later in the day to Vineyard Haven

Portions of the Island were transformed into a TV set Friday as work began on a reality show set to debut this summer. Film crews and cast members of the ABC Family show The Vineyard were spotted Friday morning filming on State Beach in Oak Bluffs before moving later in the day to Vineyard Haven, near the Black Dog Tavern and Steamship Authority.

The show has been billed as a "docu-soap" that follows the lives of a group of 18 to 24 year olds working together during a Vineyard summer. Some of the cast members will be filmed working at the Black Dog Tavern.

On Tuesday executive producer David Broome met with the Tisbury selectmen to discuss the show's filming schedule and presence on the Island. Mr. Broome said producers will be working at a breakneck pace to meet a midsummer debut, with filming set to conclude "well before" the start of the high summer season on July 4. The show is expected to debut on the ABC Family network on July 23.

"We will be a very small operation," Mr. Broome told selectmen. "I'm quite sure that most people on the Island will not even know where we are. Aside from one scene in the opening sequence with the cast coming off the ferry, "everything will be down in the Black Dog area," he said.

Oh please, get off your high horse. How in the world could this POSSIBLY deter you from coming to MV?? Some people just need something to complain about.

I so agree with you, Ryan. If this offends the first couple of comment-makers I can only imagine their feigned outrage if they were here when "Jaws" was filmed. Give it a rest -- I'm sure a summer in Pittsburgh or Rhode Island is better for those two, anyway.

Well the MV drivers who wouldn't blink an eye at hitting a (road) biker deters my family. We all know how to ride but no one on MV is willing to share the road. It's all leaning on horns, shouting obscenities out the window, and disregarding motorist responsibilities of Mass.

This is appalling, it's why there are 10,000 sq foot houses that don't belong here. It is killing what is left of a special place devoid of commercialism. Islanders have sold their soul once again. Will it ever stop ?!! This is just disgusting. Note: they did not make this garbage on Nantucket!!!
