Agency Promotion

Martha’s Vineyard Insurance Agency Inc. and Lambert Insurance Agency Inc. have promoted Irene Resendes to office manager of their Oak Bluffs location.

Ms. Resendes joined the Martha’s Vineyard Insurance Agency as a customer service representative in 1984. She most recently served as an office supervisor specializing in commercial insurance. In her new role as office manager, she will continue to provide service to her existing commercial insurance clients as well as generating new business for the agency.

Beer and Wine Meeting

Tisbury will sponsor a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Katharine Cornell Theatre on Spring street to discuss the possibility of the sale of beer and wine in the town. Discussion will be held in an open town meeting style forum.

Town administrator John Bugbee said the beer and wine proposal will be on the ballot this spring and therefore not debated on the annual town meeting floor. More information is available by calling 508-696-4203.

Women’s Workshop Set

On Financial Planning

The Martha’s Vineyard Women’s Network will hold a breakfast meeting on Jan. 29 at the Baylies Room in the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown from 7 to 9 a.m.

Jennifer W. Marlin and Margo Urbany-Joyce, both assistant financial planners with Ameriprise Financial, will address the concerns of women and their specific issues that may affect them in financial planning.

Moves are afoot to use the economic stimulus package being planned by President Bush and Congress to deal with the national economic crisis, to also resolve an immigration problem which threatens to leave Island businesses without their usual supply of foreign seasonal workers.

Cong. William Delahunt is pushing the proposal to restore immigration provisions of the H2B visa scheme, which have expired as a result of the Congressional gridlock over immigration law.
