Island Grown Schools begins ten free clinics for teachers next week. The winter farm-to-school afterschool clinics can be taken individually or as a series; it runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Jan. 19 through Feb. 18.

Melinda Rabbitt DeFeo will include in each clinic curriculum resources and how-to advice to help incorporate food and agriculture education into the already-busy classroom day.

A free seminar on energy planning, designed for architects, engineers, town planners, facilities managers and other building and design professionals, will take place on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay. It is presented by the Cape Light Compact.

The seminar will cover emerging technologies that may affect new and existing buildings and offer details about funding available to implement energy efficient upgrades.

CPR/First Aid Class

The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter will hold an Adult CPR/AED and First Aid class Jan. 9 at the YMCA on Martha’s Vineyard at 57 Pequot avenue in Oak Bluffs. The class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and costs $50 for CPR/AED only (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), or $60 for CPR/AED and First Aid (1 to 3:30 p.m.).

Dress-Ups and More

Phyllis Vecchia’s creative drama workshop for four-and-a-half to nine-year-olds at the Oak Bluffs School begins Thursday, Jan. 21. It runs weekly through March 25, 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

The workshop begins with theatre warmups and puppet play, followed by character warm-ups, a story, dress-up in costumes and a performance. Each week a new folk or fairy tale is presented for children to reenact into a creative drama piece. Call 508-696-8738 for registration and information.

The effervescent Vineyard storyteller extraordinaire, Susan Klein will hold her seventh Spice of Life Memoir Organization and Writing course on Thursdays, Jan. 7 through Feb. 25, weekly from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center.

The workshops have proved extremely popular; anyone interested in working on their life stories for their own pleasure, as a legacy to family and friends, or for publication, should call Ms. Klein at 508 693-4140 as soon as possible to reserve a slot.
