Sail MV Dinner
The Permanent Endowment Fund, the Island’s community foundation, is seeking grant requests from not-for-profit organizations and public agencies for grants from the general discretionary fund, the Island Fund, the James P. Cahen Fund and the Goldberg Fund. Grants from the general discretionary fund and Island Fund are for nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organizations primarily for capital, startup and special needs, not operating expenses. It was not the slamming of lockers or the shouts of students that filled the hallways of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Monday night. It was the sweet smell of roasting garlic.
Hastily drawn signs with arrows pointing toward the culinary arts department were few and far between. But had they plastered the halls, no one would have noticed. The scent alone was enough to guide anyone with a nose and an appetite.
Information Meeting Is
Scheduled on Wind Farm
Cape Wind and the Martha’s Vineyard chapter of Clean Power Now will co-host a meeting on Monday, Feb. 11 about the proposed wind farm in Nantucket Sound. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven.
Speakers include Mark Rodgers of Cape Wind, which has proposed building the wind farm, and Sharon Strimling Florio of Clean Power Now.
Public Speaking Workshop
Susan Klein and Charlie Esposito will offer a workshop in March and April on effective public speaking and microphone use.
The workshop will meet four consecutive Thursday afternoons, March 13, 20, 27 and April 3 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center on Pine street in Vineyard Haven.
The fee is $275. The class maximum is 10. More information is available by calling 508-693-4140.
Edgartown School Theatre
Celebrates Science Fiction
Starting tonight, Friday, Feb. 8 and running through Sunday, the Edgartown School Theatre Department will present Starmites, a musical science fiction adventure.
Directed by Donna Swift and Beth Carr, the show is about a girl who is transported into one of her favorite comic books to help battle evil and restore order to Earth and Innerspace.
