Techno-Personal Training

Curves for Women fitness club has introduced the technical version of a personal trainer. Called the Curves-Smart personal coaching system, the new technology offers a precision designed workout with moment-to-moment feedback. See it at open houses on August 26 and 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. with healthy snacks and door prizes. Color photographer Paulette Wexler and Impressionist painter Bettie Eubanks met in an exercise class on Martha’s Vineyard several years ago and quickly discovered they shared a passion for color, texture, reflected light and beauty.

They will present their work at the Weekend Garden Gallery at 106 County Road, Oak Bluffs (one mile from the hospital) receptions today and Saturday, August 23, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Transformational Show

In their last camp show of the summer, staff and campers of IMP All Things Theatre Camp have spent two weeks creating an entirely new and original show based of the theme of Transformation. This show will feature Shakespeare, story theatre, fables, music and dance as well as a unique improvised plot. Fun for all ages, the show is enjoyable even if you have never heard of IMP Camp before.

“Vote or Die!” was the message rapper Puff Daddy delivered during the 2004 presidential elections as he and other celebrities banded together to motivate the youth of America to vote. After extensive media campaigns, nearly half of 18 to 24-year-olds turned out at the polls. This marked an 11 per cent increase from the 2000 election and the highest youth turnout since 1992.

Got Chops?

The film Chops, about high school jazz bands competing at the Essentially Ellington Festival, will screen as the final Tabernacle summer film, tonight, Tuesday, August 19, at 8 p.m. in the Camp Ground in Oak Bluffs.

Filmmaker Brice Broder turns his lens on one Florida band at the festival hosted by Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center. Running 88 minutes, Chops is appropriate for all ages. Admissions is $8 and $5 for film society members.
