Some single class seminars and multi-week courses — on subjects as diverse as Shakespeare, wine appreciation and salsa — are still open for registration with the Adult and Community Education Program (ACE MV). Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The fall session runs through Dec. 4, and a winter session begins Jan. 12.

Mussels don’t taste like duck, but the difference between the flavor of farmed mussels and wild ones is like the difference between a domesticated duck and one born to the pond. The meat of a farm-raised duck is tenderer, milder and tamer — while a wild fowl is more toothsome, nuttier and gamier, admittedly not for everyone.

Minnesingers’ Auction

Tomorrow is the Minnesingers’ Annual Auction and Mini-Concert. The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s select vocal group will perform, plus there will be food, an array of items in a silent auction and a live auction with Trip Barnes at the microphone.

Help support the Minnesingers as they pursue community and cultural outreach through music. Doors open at 5 p.m., live auction begins at 7 p.m. It’s all at the Portuguese American Club on Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs.

To every play there is a season, and Halloween is the perfect season for Shakespeare’s creepiest, witchiest play: The Tragedy of Macbeth. And so, tonight and tomorrow night at 8 p.m., The Vineyard Playhouse’s Shakespeare for the Masses project will offer a free, script-in-hand presentation of “the Scottish Play,” as actors superstitiously refer to it.

Need more election reflection before Tuesday night’s poll results? On Saturday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. the film The Election Game — showing the results gathered by a news team from Italy who travelled around America this past year asking Americans what issues in this year’s Presidential election were most important to them — will screen at the Katharine Cornell Theatre on Spring street in Vineyard Haven.

Producer Emi Norris will attend and take questions after the film.

Island Theatre Workshop is celebrating Linda Berg’s achievements as director of the Children’s Theatre program for the past three years and as music director for the 13 preceding years. Festivities will take place at the Sailing Camp on Barnes Road on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 from 2 to 5 p.m.
