A Jazz Tribute to President Obama, an original work of words and music by Columbia Law School professor and columnist for The Nation Patricia Williams and composer and saxophonist Oliver Lake, will be performed on Saturday, July 25, at 4 p.m. in Ocean Park as the centerpiece of Della Hardman Day. The performance is free and open to the public.

A new poetry performance series, Island Voices, continues at Che’s Lounge on Wednesday, July 22nd at 7:30 p.m. Clark Myers will host the event, with poets Jill Jupen, Don Nitchie and John Maloney performing their work, followed by an open reading. All Island poets are invited.

At one end of the Oak Bluffs Arts Stroll, at the glasswork studio of Jeri Dantzig, soothing harp music lured strollers into a colorful glass menagerie of assorted dishwares, barrettes, and other glass pieces. Dantzig’s first arts stroll appearance was slightly off the beaten path (on Vineyard Ave.), a fitting location for her glasswares, which feature funky greens and blues, loopy designs and stained glass platters. In Max Minsky and Me, 13-year-old Nelly’s obsession of making the school basketball team (so she can meet the handsome Prince of Luxembourg) depends on Max Minsky, aged 15. With an introduction by Jaymie Saks, Managing Director of the Boston Jewish Film Festival, the Hebrew Center’s Summer Institute will screen this film about teen romance, basketball, and the realms of fantasy at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.Fresh from The Boston Jewish Film Festival, Max Minsky and Me is a whimsical, heart-felt, feel-good story about the confusions of young love.

You can bring the kids for the stilt walkers and jugglers, for the popcorn, pizza and face-painting, for all the under-the-big-tent fun that is Cinema Circus at the Chilmark Community Center every Wednesday at 5 p.m. The main act, of course, is the movie. I first saw the movie Two Brothers four years ago and liked it a lot, so it was great to see it again; I hope that you go to see it.
