Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending Jan. 16
We are definitely enjoying the January thaw. It has really helped with cleaning up the rest of the leaves and it makes it easier to take down the Christmas decorations. So let’s hope the January thaw last a little longer.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Jamily Dias, Brody Scott and Zymire Grant, who all celebrated Jan. 12; Enzo Duarte, Jan. 15; and to Amelia Rossi, who celebrates her day on Jan. 16.
There is so many trucks going up and down my street as they work on the new Boys & Girls Club. I have gotten used to the lack of trees there, but I know something good is going to come out of it. I see the number of people who use the club after school and it needs improvement. It is a fun watch during these winter months.
Also, the school grounds are coming along with a new slide and swings. There are also two pieces I have never seen, and they are not complete. I am wondering what they are.
I drove through town and I started figuring that it is winter because there are plenty of parking spaces, there are only a few stores open on Main street, there are sawhorses with boards and saws set outside a store doing some repairs and sprucing up for spring, the scallop boats are ready to go, and the scallopers are gathered in Dock Street coffee shop talking about their day or just waiting for it to be warm enough to go out, there are signs thanking people for a great season, and some sale signs in the windows, houses are closed up as people are probably in warmer places, the shrubs are covered with burlap, the butter is hard in the dish, depending on how warm you keep your house, you go to the Stop & Shop to get your steps in and catch up with friends who are doing the same thing, State Beach has a few walkers along the beach, and the bike path also has a few walkers, the water is that green-blue color, you can see the Cape clearly, Cannonball park seems darker now that the Christmas lights are off, the night sky seems to have more stars, and there is a lot of kale soup being made.
However, you chose to spend your winter, keep warm, maybe enjoy the library and all the activities they provide, catch a good movie or stay home and get things done that you are too busy to do in the summer. Enjoy.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
