It is easy to pick out Jupiter rising in the east after sunset, but take note of a brilliant star higher in the East, it is Capella. Capella is actually four stars so close together that you only see one. The star is in the constellation Auriga, and its brilliance is easy to think that it is a planet. Capella, also called the Little Goat Star, is almost as bright as Saturn now in the southwestern sky.

There is plenty of mythology surrounding both the star and the constellation. The goat star is linked to stories of Zeus, the mythological king of the Gods. Zeus is also linked with stories to Jupiter.

The star is 42 light years away, making it part of our stellar neighborhood. It takes light 42 years to travel from the star to us.

There is no moon this weekend. The moon is in the New Moon phase on Sunday. You could see the moon as a thin crescent on Tuesday, but you will see it for sure Wednesday night low in the southwest after sunset.
