This week, the Vineyard Preservation Trust begins its Community in Conversation series at the Carnegie, an early-evening speaker series centered around local topics.
The series takes place on three successive Wednesdays, Jan. 14, 21 and 28, beginning at 5 p.m.
The first conversation is led by Adam Moore of Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation, and focuses on the Southern Pine Beetle that is devastating Vineyard trees.
On Jan. 21, Dr. Gerry Yukevich of Martha’s Vineyard Medical will lead a talk about his career as a doctor on the Island. Dr. Yukevich is also an actor, author and singer, so expect a wide-ranging performance and discussion.
On Jan. 28, Ana Keilson and Justin Reynolds, co-directors of Gull Island Institute, will be the featured speakers for a talk entitled Reimagining Higher Education: Learning, Work and Community.
Gull Island Institute is a Falmouth-based education nonprofit that reimagines liberal arts education through academics, physical labor and student self-governance. The institute will bring a small cohort of undergraduates from across the country to the Vineyard for a month-long program this May and June.
The Carnegie is located at 58 North Water Street, Edgartown.
