Island school officials are hosting a series of open forums for Martha’s Vineyard residents weigh in on the search for the next superintendent of public education.
The first forum takes place at the West Tisbury School at 5 p.m. on Jan. 13, followed by one at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School library at 5 p.m. on Jan. 14. Both of these meetings will take place only in person. The final forum is Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and will only be via Zoom (us02web.zoom.us/j/82222718013?pwd=DVcNSaWeMLI9QZBbueOwqMBDSisPgq.1.)
Each of the hour-long forums will be moderated by Sean Costello of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, which is managing the superintendent search under contract to the all-Island school committee.
Committee member Alex Salop said applications for the position will be reviewed in late January and finalists will be interviewed during the first week of February.
“We expect a vote to appoint the new superintendent in mid-February,” Mr. Salop told the Gazette.
Current superintendent of schools Richard Smith is retiring at the end of June.
School officials are also conducting an online poll of Island residents' priorities for the next superintendent. The brief survey is posted at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSev9aZziik4KcyuRkD4Jqx2dhCt2k0FPvBhg8qLsYFugTO0Bg/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=106501237558229777518.
