West Tisbury Town Column: Week Ending Dec. 12
Christmas is less than two weeks away and there is an ancient song in my head with someone boasting about the 12 gifts she received in 12 days, all from Santa, whom she called her true love.
Christmas is less than two weeks away and there is an ancient song in my head with someone boasting about the 12 gifts she received in 12 days, all from Santa, whom she called her true love.
So if you believe in Santa Claus, here is a shopping list from me, given with true love to West Tisbury and to the towns around it.
Twelve more affordable housing units.
Eleven more acres of protected open space.
Ten times ten:100 more mailboxes (Both the post office and Alley’s have waiting lists.)
Nine cures for nine tick diseases: Lyme, alpha-gal, babesiosis, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularemia, powassan and borrelia miyamotoi.
Eight more parking spaces at Lambert’s Cove.
Seven days added to the August calendar.
Six more primary care doctors.
Five additional classrooms.
Four inches of snow on Christmas Eve.
Three veterinarians.
Two appliance repairmen.
One early, lingering spring.

Welcome home to John and Alicia Durant Webster who have recently enjoyed traveling around the southern, mostly-Mediterranean ports and byways of Europe. Alicia reports they are laden down with gifts for all the family and friends.
If you hear a joyful noise around the intersection of State Road and Music street Sunday afternoon just before dark, it is coming from the outdoor service at the First Congregational church. This is the first of a series of readings, prayers and song, in an all-ages service called Between the Oaks. The meetings will continue at 4:30 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month. Please remove your mittens before you are served pizza indoors after the service.
More happy music will be created at the library Thursday at 3:30 p.m. during the ukelele jam. All ages and all degrees of musical talent are welcome. Newcomers will be coached on how to strum. Fa la la.
Happy birthday to several West Tisbury folks on Sunday, Dec. 14. including Rick Karney, Sarah McKay, Brett Fisher, Cathy Brennan and Ava Vigneault.

Happy birthday Wednesday, Dec. 17, to Mark Hurwitt and Diane Caponigro Cote.
And big birthday greetings to the irrepressible Irene Tewksbury.
