Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending Dec. 12

Freezing is the word of the week. You can almost handle the cold if the wind does not blow, but that has not been the case, except for Sunday, which was a good day and many took advantage of it. We will see what happens next.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to James Thornton who celebrated Dec, 6, Perolla Marcal, Emma Wallace, Sloan Snowden, Dec, 8, Llija Trance Dec. 9, Isaac Scheffer, Matheus Candido, Dec. 10 and to Isabella Francis-Espino who celebrated her day Dec. 11.

Patty Mundt and Ernie Carlomagno and Patty’s son and daughter in law Kraig and Ashley and granddaughter Maizey have just returned to the Island after spending time on St. John. Dan and Jade Deslauriers were also on the trip, and they all enjoyed the warm weather, and days in all the island coves for swimming and being in the pool. Maizey had a great time and told her parents she wanted to stay longer where it was warm. But they are home and traded their flip flops for Uggs.

I hear half the people are ready for Christmas, and the other half are in a panic because nothing is done. Sometimes people do much better under pressure.

The Christmas carols have been playing, the Christmas movies are on, people are baking cookies and different kinds of bread and, of course, the decorating has started.

I personally like to decorate, which I have not started, with the movie White Christmas playing to make the mood festive. My dad was the biggest kid when it came to Christmas, and it was one of his favorite movies. He and my mom would let my brothers and I decorate the tree, and he loved to watch us throw the tinsel on the tree, sometimes from across the room. It landed perfectly and naturally on the tree. Mom was not as excited as there was also a lot on the floor. Dad was also the one that decided to wake us up at midnight to open presents. It was a smart move as they could sleep in on Christmas morning while we got up and played with our gifts.

Hagerty tree just finished putting the lights on the trees in Cannonball Park. They light up the park so nicely and if you look at them long enough and use your imagination, you might see dancing ladies. Just a thought.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
