Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending Nov. 14

We have had a buffet of weather this week — rain, wind, warm and our first of the season very cold temperatures and some snowflakes on Monday.

We have had a buffet of weather this week — rain, wind, warm and our first of the season very cold temperatures and some snowflakes on Monday. Like true New Englanders we weathered through it, of course not without a little complaining involved. Winter is coming and we will soon see what Mother Nature has in store for us.

Happy Birthday to all those who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Michael Leahy, who celebrated Nov. 8; Demyen Heil, Alice Martins, Rahjae Hall, Nov. 9; Helena Da Silva, Addison Kral, Nov. 11; and to Juliet Merrill who celebrated her day Nov. 12.

I am trying not to eat my own words and warnings, but Christmas is coming all too fast now. I hope we can appreciate Thanksgiving, as I think it is an important part of the holiday season and a family time. Thanksgiving is late again this year, and Advent starts that Sunday. So, now we really have to hustle. I have few things for Christmas, but I have a long way to go.

Even though we are at that in between season at the nursery, we still have people strolling through and enjoying what we do have available. At times we get to talk to them and the most popular question is: “What do you do here in the winter?” My answer is always the same, whatever we want. You can stay home and do the things you could not do all summer in your house, or read, do crafts or whatever you enjoy, or you can be active in the community, whether being on a committee in town, being part of the community chorus, church activities or helping with the sporting events. It is all up to the person. Many people enjoy the beaches, as they are quiet, and the best time to go beachcombing.

There is always treating yourself and going out to eat. The Wharf has burger night on Tuesdays, and the burgers are delicious, Rockfish has pasta night on Wednesday night, and during happy hour appetizers are half price, and the mussels are amazing. Town MV is known for its sushi, and Indigo is going strong as the new restaurant in town. I am not a spicy eater, but I enjoyed the lamb, and they have a great menu. So hopefully you can enjoy some time out.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
