Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending Nov. 7

We have had a nice amount of rain, it has not been too cold, the sun is still warm enough to enjoy outdoor activities, but the wind has been very present.

We have had a nice amount of rain, it has not been too cold, the sun is still warm enough to enjoy outdoor activities, but the wind has been very present. I would like the wind to finish blowing the leaves off the trees so the clean up can be done.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Samantha De Freitas, who celebrated Nov. 1; Davi Soares, Lavinia Abreu, Nov. 3; Bernardo Amaral, Brooklyn Cancellare, Emma Braillard, Lorena Abreu, Nov. 5; Hazel Tuper, Nov. 6; and to Victoria Cazario, who celebrates her day today Nov. 7.

This is my list of how I know winter is about be upon us. 1) Don’t go shopping on Sunday morning. It can be good to see your friends, but it is crowded and the lines are long at the checkout so you can’t get home for the game. 2) You leave the Stop & Shop and you only have to stop and look and go. 3) The heat came on because it is Nov. 1. 4) Time to get all your spring bulbs in the ground. 5) You can’t decide to empty your planters because there are still some annuals that are still happy and blooming. 6) You cant decide if you need a jacket or if the vest might be enough. 7) Everyone is making butternut squash soup, and apple crisp is for dessert. 8) It is now dark at 5 p.m. but it is light at 6 a.m. 9) It is family scalloping season. 10) QVC is doing gift ideas for the holidays. 11) Mariah Carey is getting ready to play All I want for Christmas is you. 11) The turkeys are in hiding because Thanksgiving is coming.
