Deon, who has fed so many of us for so many years, is retiring! I hope he and his wife get a much needed rest. Thank you both. You will be missed.
Saturday, Sept. 20 is a big day on our Island. First is the eighth annual Darkness into Vineyard Light suicide prevention walk at Bend in the Road on State Beach. The organizers are still looking for volunteers to help out. Then Oak Bluffs opens Circuit avenue with our annual Tivoli Day, with lots of traditional fun and feasting. Take your house guests.
The MVNAACP also reminds us it is the annual Craig Tankard Run/Walk road race. I am curious as to how many of you will participate in all three events.
The Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club is opening up coed basketball games to high school age kids. Here’s a chance to sharpen your skills.
Speaking of basketball, my favorite athlete, young Keyshawn Devine returned from his first trip ever to New York city. He stayed in a hotel in Times Square, the center of the action. Keyshawn was traveling with the Vineyard Breakers, an AAU basketball team. Keyshawn really loved the city and had a great time. By the way, you can catch a game by his team at our high school on this Sunday at 11 a.m. Come support our Vineyard Breakers.
Sadly, Dr. Tim Guiney has died. Dr. Guiney took care of our hearts here for many years. Now we must keep his memory in our hearts.
The birthday bandwagon pulled along Nancy Nevin on Sept. 15; Carolyn Snow-Redington claimed Sept. 16; and on Sept, 27 Linda Tydings Massaro takes the cake. Many happy returns.
